Hello. How is everyone this week? I want to talk about sizing. If I asked you what your measurements are could you tell me? Could you tell me in relation to how brands define their sizes? This is something I really struggle with and even more so now that I am two and half years post pregnancy. Before having my babies, I had a firm grasp on my style, my body and how to dress it. Now, my body is completely different not only in size but in shape, so shopping can be a challenge and that is why knowing your own measurements is so important.
Mother Dragon is all about using maternity clothing already in the supply chain and that means going along with how each brand defines size. It really has been eye opening when sourcing preloved maternity clothing to see how each brand represents sizes. I want to give you as much information as possible when shopping at Mother Dragon so I will of course give you the brand’s size, as well as measurements of each garment.. I will try to avoid language such as ‘true to size’ or ‘this runs big’ or worse ‘small fitting’, none of which are helpful. Those statements are only true if the person fits the size according to the brand.
I would say forget what we think we know about sizes, use them as a guide if you must. The only numbers you need to pay attention to are your own measurements. Something I find really helpful when shopping online is to compare the measurement of what you already own, something that you enjoy wearing and fits you well. This will give you a more realistic idea of what you are buying, whether it’s a 12, XS, Large or an 8 on the label.
