When Your Outfit Throws Off Your Whole Day: Dressing for Mood, Style & Function

June 26, 2025

When colour of the season isn’t for you (and you prefer butter on your toast).

May 12, 2025

Butter yellow is the declared color of the season, dominating trends and retail spaces. While it appeals to some, it’s crucial to question personal preferences versus societal pressure to follow trends. The Pink Edition

April 18, 2024

I had somewhat of a pink discovery a few years ago, you can read about it here on lovetomtom.com. From never wearing pink, it is now one of my power colours and a permanent fixture in my wardrobe. It seems there is no escaping pink when it comes to maternity clothes, much like stripes, but I’m glad to see brands are expanding the colour palette to incl[...]

Colour analysis is everywhere right now.
We're told certain colours make us glow, while others wash us out. And maybe that's true.

But is colour analysis a genuinely useful tool that makes getting dressed easier? Or is it just another fashion rule that's complicating the way we get dressed?

Personally, I think understanding colour can be helpful. But I also think wearing a colour you love counts for a lot, even if it's not in your 'season'.

So tell me, have you had your colours done? Which of these tops would you choose?

👇🏼 Trend or useful tool?

Why are there so many skinny maternity jeans?

For years, the styling advice was simple: volume on the top, slim on the bottom. And what has more volume than a growing bump? So it makes sense that skinny maternity jeans became the default.

But as trends change, maternity fashion is catching up. Now we're seeing more straight-leg, wide-leg, mom, barrel and relaxed styles appearing. In fact, they're often the first jeans to sell when they come into the shop.

Skinny jeans haven't disappeared and nor should they; they're just no longer the only option. And choice is always a good thing.

Maternity jeans are also one of the best items to buy preloved. The over-the-bump waistband makes them quite specific, and because they’re usually worn for a short period, many pairs are still in excellent condition with plenty of life in them.

Why do you think skinny maternity jeans dominated for so long? Was it the styling, the fit, or simply a lack of alternatives?

Exciting news 🎉

I'm looking for a new charity partner.

Mother Dragon exists because I know how difficult it can be to find clothes that fit your changing body, your style and your budget during pregnancy and postpartum. Every woman deserves to feel comfortable, confident and like herself during this stage of life.

That's why I'm looking to connect with a new organisation that supports women through pregnancy, postpartum and early motherhood.

You might be a social worker, midwife, doula, community worker, volunteer, family support worker, charity leader, or someone working directly with women and families. Or perhaps you know an organisation that would be a great fit.

If your work is centred on supporting women and your values align with Mother Dragon, I'd love to hear from you.

Let's talk about why preloved makes sense.

There are so many reasons people choose to shop preloved: sustainability, finding unique pieces, reducing waste, supporting circular fashion, and making more conscious purchasing decisions.

Today, I’m focusing on just one of those reasons: finances 💰.

Whether you're building a wardrobe, replacing essentials, or treating yourself to something special, every small saving adds up.

Shopping preloved doesn’t have to mean compromising on quality or style. It can simply mean getting more from your budget while giving great pieces a second life.

Do finances play a role in your decision to shop preloved?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding asks a lot of your clothes. Often function takes priority but it isn't everything.
Clothes need to be comfortable and practical. But they still need to be pieces you want to wear.
The best pieces quietly do both. They're the ones you reach for again and again without thinking about it.
The ones that make getting dressed a little easier. They don't pull, twist or distract. They just let you get on with your day.

Nobody needs 200 maternity pieces.

Most of us are trying to find something comfortable that matches our style, our mood, and the body we have right now

So keep it simple.

A small collection of preloved pieces, chosen carefully, described honestly and ready for new life.
